As many of you will already know, Stuart McDonald was appointment Supporter Director during November 2016. Since then the Supporters Trust has further bolstered its presence within the Club and in its day to day dealings with major shareholders Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Chris Pearlman.
A team of three has now been set up to act as a bridge between the Club’s major shareholders and the Trust Board. The team comprises:
Stuart McDonald, who in addition to being the Trust’s Supporter Director, has now been appointed as a Director of holding company Swansea City 2002 Limited.
Stuart’s role as Supporter Director involves regular meetings and contact with Club staff, including COO Chris Pearlman, to discuss current issues within the club. He also attends Directors’ Board meetings whenever they are held.
Phil Sumbler is the current Chairman of the Supporters Trust. In addition to his Chairman’s responsibilities, Phil is in regular contact the major shareholders and has played a key role in many of the developments within the Club over the last few months.
Will Morris is currently the Trust’s Vice Chairman and is also an Associate Director of the Club. Within in the team, and as an expansion of his Associate Director role, Will acts as a support to Stuart and Phil.
In addition, he has recently been appointed by the Trust to take up the Observer’s role at Directors’ Board meetings, following discussions between the team and the Club’s major shareholders.
The Trust feels that by setting up the above team, it can enter into and sustain a close, constructive partnership with the major shareholders, based on trust and mutual respect.
In doing so, it is hoped that such a relationship will considerably benefit Swansea City Football Club. A recent example has been the full engagement and participation of the team in the Club’s most recent managerial appointment.
Finally, it is important for supporters to be aware that Stuart, Phil and Will personally receive no remuneration from the club for undertaking the above roles.
Any Director remuneration that the Club may award will go directly to the Supporters Trust, and we would stress that none of the three individuals have any commercial dealings with the Club in a private capacity.
