Trust Welcomes News of Training Facility Go-Ahead

July 24, 2012

Work at LandoreThe Swansea City Supporters Trust has welcomed today’s announcement of an agreement for the Swans to lease the expansive University-owned fields at Fairwood to use as its training base.

Once completed, the training ground will include eight full-size pitches, including two all-weather pitches, dedicated training pitches and changing facilities in a refurbished pavilion, plus additional buildings to house further changing facilities, offices, seminar rooms and specialist medical and physiotherapy rooms. The University will also use the facilities for competitive fixtures and team training.

Supporter Director Huw Cooze who, as a member of the Club Board of Directors, had been party to the ongoing negotiations with the University, described it as a proud moment in the continuing development of Swansea City.

He added: “Whilst the ultimate aim has always been to become an established Premier League Club it is important that we make sure that time spent in the top division leaves a lasting legacy. This training complex will do just that and the link with the University provides an added bonus. The University’s considerable expertise in sports science and sports medicine is something that any major sports club would find invaluable. This partnership between the Swans and our local University is very much a win win situation for all parties.”
