Trust ready for detailed discussions with new Swans owners

July 22, 2016

The Swansea City Supporters Trust note the release of a statement from Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien following the completion of the share purchase from the other shareholders.

We are pleased to hear them say ‘we see ourselves as guardians of the Club, but it belongs to the fans of Swansea City’ as that is how we have always seen owners of any football club and that clubs really do belong to the fans ultimately as the only consistent.

As we have mentioned in previous statements, we have had some informal meetings with Mr Levien and others but we are yet to have detailed discussions regarding a number of issues which are important to the Trust, as well as more detailed discussions around governance and our ongoing role within the club.

We are continuing discussions with the new owners and have further meetings planned for next week where we will hope to progress towards the protections that are so important with us.

We will also be looking to confirm a date to hold a meeting with our Full Trust members so that we can keep them fully informed of the situation. As soon as we have this date then we will of course advise our members accordingly.

The Supporters Trust remains committed to ensure the best for Swansea City Football Club. That goal has not changed even if the ownership of shares in the club has.

We will continue to work as hard as we can to ensure the club never goes back to the dark days of years ago but continues to progress both on and off the field as a force in the Premier League. We hope that in partnership we can build on the success story that has been “the Swans” for the last ten years.
