It is 15 years ago that Leon Britton arrived at Swansea City and on behalf of all Swans fans the Supporters Trust wishes to celebrate and commemorate the 15 years loyal service that Leon has given and continues to give to the Club.
It is a particular journey which the Supporters Trust takes great pride in, having launched the ‘Battle for Britton’ fundraising campaign in 2003 to raise money to pay for his wages. Monies were raised from fund raising activities such as raffles and many bucket collections to which Swans fans generously contributed.
The money raised from the fund raising campaign helped secure the permanent signing of Leon and the rest, as they say, is history.
After serving the club loyally for 15 years and with over 500 appearances there still exists a remarkably close connection between Leon and the fans and long may the chants of ‘Leon, Leon’ echo around the Liberty Stadium.
To mark the occasion an award will be presented to Leon pitchside ahead of kick off tonight by Trust Board member Ron Knuszka, one of the many involved in fund raising activities at the time.
