Welcome to the Swansea City Supporters’ Trust’s regular page in the match day programme. We welcome our opponents today, Sheffield United, and their fans to the Liberty Stadium. The Swans are on a good run of form recently, unbeaten in four games and scoring freely in away wins at Reading on New Year’s Day and Aston Villa in the FA Cup, sandwiched between the home draw against Wigan and last Saturday’s draw at Preston.
The Christmas and New Year fixture period is always demanding and the improvement in results and performances was welcome after disappointing defeats to Hull and Aston Villa. We hope the club will make good progress in the FA Cup and are looking forward to the last 32 home tie against Gillingham, at which we hope fans will take advantage of the “Kids for a quid” offer and the lower ticket prices for season ticket holders.
We are now firmly in the middle of the January transfer window and the Trust hopes to see some new arrivals to strengthen the squad and give Graham Potter and the players the best chance of success for the remainder of the season.
As part of the Trust’s ongoing schools’ initiative, a small group of pupils from Llangatwg Comprehensive school visited the Liberty Stadium for a tour on 19 December. The group was given a very comprehensive tour of the changing rooms, pitchside, the press room and a hospitality box. The Trust would like to thank Stuart Button who has been extremely supportive and flexible in helping with the stadium tours. A visit by the club ambassadors is being arranged to view the pupils’ work and talk to them about their ideas. The progress of the three groups in Gowerton Comprehensive School has been reviewed during a visit to the school by Trust board member, Roger Goodwin. Pupils have come up with an interesting range of ideas including catering, physical activity and social media.
The 18th Annual General Meeting of Swansea City Supporters’ Trust will be held at the Liberty Stadium on Monday 28 January starting at 7.30pm. As well as the usual business of the AGM, the Trust Chair, Phil Sumbler, will update members on latest issues and there will be an open forum during which Trust members will be able to ask questions of the board. We look forward to seeing members at the meeting on 28 January. The full agenda for the meeting is available here: https://www.swanstrust.co.uk/2019/01/13/agm-agenda/
As always, we like to finish by reminding you that you can visit the Trust’s website at www.swanstrust.co.uk for more information on the aims and objectives of the Trust, the work we do and how to join the Trust (online, by mail, or at the Trust pod).
