Welcome to the first Swansea City Supporters’ Trust’s page in the match day programme for the 2019/20 season. As usual, we would firstly like to extend a warm welcome to our opponents, Atalanta B.C., and their fans who have made the long trip to the Liberty Stadium for today’s game. Welcome to Wales!
As is usually the Swansea way, this summer has been anything but dull as we saw the departure of our former manager Graham Potter and his coaching team. Due to the good progress made last season in bringing through many of our successful U23 team and rediscovering our positive and progressive footballing identity, it was sad to see Graham leave to take up the manager’s position at Brighton. The Trust would like to wish him, and his team, all the best for the future.
As one manager leaves, another one has the opportunity to take his place and the Swans Trust would once again like to welcome Steve Cooper and his coaching team to the Liberty Stadium. Whilst this will be Steve’s first head coach role in senior football, he comes with a very high reputation in footballing circles as a World Cup winning England U17 manager. Steve is a hungry and ambitious manager with a track record of playing our style of football, which we think are important characteristics for any manager we appoint. We’re sure Steve and his team will get a wonderful welcome from the Swans fans today and we’d like to add our voice to that!
On the playing side, it was sad but somewhat inevitable to see Daniel James leave SA1 this summer. Whilst it’s disappointing he has left given his excellent form for us last year, it was entirely expected that he would be noticed by big clubs and there aren’t many bigger in the world than Manchester United. We’re sure he’ll be a big success there and we wish him all the best for the future.
The good news so far is that, at the time of writing, many of the standout performers from last season are still with us and we’re sure that everyone is excited to see how our talented, young squad develops over the coming season. Its good to see a couple of new additions to the squad and we hope that Steve will continue to be given as much backing as possible to ensure we’re competitive at the top end of the league this season.
From a Trust perspective, it’s been a busy summer with the recent ballots for election to the Trust board and the Members consultation. Our thanks to all members who attended the forum at the Landore Social Club last week and we hope you found it useful. We expect the results of both votes to be announced next week, via email to our members, website and social media channels.
Can we also take this opportunity to remind our Trust members that its now time to renew your memberships for the new season. Renewal forms will be arriving through the post with existing Trust members this weekend and you can also join the Trust very easily online here: Join the Trust
We ended with a 25% increase in Trust memberships last season and we will be doing our utmost to ensure we continue to develop and offer our members and supporters an active voice as 21% shareholders of Swansea City Football Club.
As usual, we’d like to end our message by reminding everyone that your Swans Trust representatives can be found at the Pod outside the West Stand prior to all our home league and cup fixtures. You can also keep up-to-date with all Trust news at www.swanstrust.co.uk or via our Twitter, Facebook or Instagram pages.
