TRUST STATEMENT – STEVE COOPER
With the departure of Steve Cooper confirmed yesterday, the Trust would like to put on record our thanks to Steve for his time and achievements at our club.
Steve joined us 2 years ago at a difficult time. After relegation from the Premier League and a season of the start of the rebuild under Graham Potter, Steve inherited a squad still under reconstruction whilst working under tremendous financial restraints.
Steve and his coaching team worked with the squad, used his extensive contacts to bring in loan players and achieved results well above the expectations of most, in both his seasons in charge. After reaching the play-offs in his first season, there was further progress last season in reaching the play off final at Wembley. Overall an impressive record with a 45% win percentage and two top six finishes. Progress year on year in a results driven business.
Our interaction with Steve has been severely restricted by Covid but whenever we had contact with him, he was very supportive of our efforts to grow the link between the club, the squad and the fans. We thank him for the work he’s done at the club and wish him the very best for his future.
Looking forward, we hope the Club appoints a new manager who can continue the good work started by Graham and Steve, and provide the manager with the necessary resources to take the club forward.
