Hi, I'm Tony Sharpe

Role:

Board Member. Sub Groups: Membership / Events Delivery / Heritage / Global Jacks

Occupation:

Delivery Driver

Location:

Swansea

Favourite ever Swans player(s)?

Roger Freestone, Corny & Andy Legg; in more recent times Alan Tate, Leon Britton, Ashley Williams and Jamie Paterson.

When and why did you join the Swans Trust Board?

This is my 3rd season on the Swans Trust Board Since joining the Board I have helped with arranging a Ten Pin Bowling night, (hopefully another one this season) and become one of the local Ambassadors for the Global Jacks initiative which I love as it gives me an opportunity to meet Swans fans from around the world. I also sit on the Heritage sub-group which is something I really enjoy as it gives me an opportunity to learn the history of our club. I was part of the working group that was set up to commission the painting of a number of telephone junction boxes around the city recognising the achievements of some of our local players which will hopefully inspire future generations. I also have other ideas and plan to help deliver future projects to celebrate our rich Club heritage. I think it’s important that we continue to have regular dialog with each other within the Trust Board and the Club and look forward to our continued relationship during the season ahead. Plus hopefully finishing the season as Wales #1 team and some! STID

What is your role at the Trust?

I’m part of the membership group, specifically looking at fundraising activities that the Trust should be running. I have previous experience in this area, and I hope to work with the Trust and the club to help set up Ten Pin Bowling, Golf Days and many other events for Trust members. I also work closely with the Global Jacks initiative and more recently have been involved with the work of our Trust Heritage sub group.

What are your views on the future and how will you support that?

Although I was not a supporter of the takeover, we are where we are, and it can’t be changed. It isn’t productive to dwell on the past, especially if it affects the present. I joined the Trust so that I could help move both the Trust and Club forward. Football without fans is nothing, players/managers come and go but it’s us fans that spend money and our time supporting our team. The Trust helps ensure there’s a team in Swansea for future generations to support.

Best Swans memory?

Too many to pick just one; The AutoGlass Final in 1994 where we beat Cardiff down at the Vetch. Brentford away in the Play-offs. Nottingham Forest in the Play-offs semi-finals, and the 2011 Play-off final. The 2013 League Cup run, although we beat Bradford in the final I think fans of other clubs forget that we knocked the holders out and beat the European Champions on route to that final.
