Name: Mike Bastin
Occupation: Civil Servant
Current role: Swans Trust Secretary
Why did you join the Trust Board: I’m a life-long supporter and became aware of the opportunity to support the Trust as secretary. I understand the aims and history of the club and the aims of the Trust, so I wanted to get involved to help the Trust be as effective as possible.
What attributes/skills are you able to bring to the Board: I’ve a significant background as a senior manager in the Civil Service, with roles ranging from government policy, organisational design, IT, communications and as private secretary to senior Ministers. I feel able to handle the role and help slicken processes for board members behind the scenes to ensure everyone is sighted key issues and direction of travel.
How do you feel the Trust can further develop its representation of members and the wider fan base: Stronger engagement. One of the things within my role I think I can help with is communication between the Trust and its members. I strongly believe if there’s ways we can improve how we let our members know what the board are working towards, we should be doing that. Similarly, I think there’s ways we can probably improve how members can engage with the board and flag important issues, so these are a couple of things I’d like to support while in post.
