Match Day Programme Page v Nottingham Forest 14/9/19

Welcome to the Swansea City Supporters’ Trust’s page in the match day programme for today’s league encounter. As usual we’d like to give a warm welcome to our opponents, Nottingham Forest, and their fans who have made the long trip to South West Wales. We hope you enjoy your visit to our city, although we plan to be the ones keeping the three points!

Due to the international break, it’s been a long two weeks since our last match, an excellent 1-0 win at Leeds United. Elland Road is probably one of the toughest grounds to get a result in this division, so all credit must go to Steve Cooper and the team for restricting one of the favourites for promotion to relatively few clear-cut chances and coming back with all three points. We’re sure we’re not the only ones who have spent the last two weeks repeatedly watching those highlights on Swans TV!

While as fans we’re always optimistic when it comes to the Swans, our start to the season has probably exceeded all bar the most ambitious expectations. To earn 16 points from the first 6 games, mainly earned against teams in the top half of the table, is an excellent achievement. From that perspective, the international break probably couldn’t have come at a worse time. However, while there is no doubt today’s match against another top 10 team will be difficult, we are confident the team can continue their excellent form and get all three points.

Speaking of the international break, it was especially pleasing to see many of our players performing so well on the international stage. It’s always great to see our players break into the Wales senior team in particular and Joe Rodon turned in two exceptional performances in his debut appearances. As ever, he was ably assisted by Connor Roberts in defence, who is now a regular fixture on the right flank for the national team. All age groups, including the senior side, saw a significant representation from the Swans, which yet again shows the benefits of our wonderful academy setup, for both club and country. A special mention also to Bersant Celina who played a key role for Kosovo in their win against the Czech Republic and their excellent performance in defeat against England.
