So, the season comes to a close with today’s visit of QPR. With neither side having anything to play for that can sometimes serve up an entertaining end of season encounter with whoever winning today finishing above their opponents in the final league table. And based on our past few games I can’t see this one ending 0-0…..
Earlier this week the club held its first annual awards dinner for 3 years at the Swansea.com stadium. Around 500 guests and members of the club attended and enjoyed a wonderful evening hosted by the irrepressible Kev Johns who was in impervious form throughout.
There were some great moments relived of our season and some truly deserving award winners, a full list of whom can be seen on the club’s website.
Among them is the Swansea City Supporters’ Trust Lifetime Achievement Award which has been presented at the club’s awards night since 2007. It has recognised many of the people that have done so much for our club and our supporters and this year is no exception as it was awarded to former Trust Board member and current secretary of the Swansea City Disabled Supporters’ Association (DSA), Cath Dyer.
We are all delighted for Cath and this award comes just after winning the prestigious EFL Supporter of the Year Award at the Grosvenor Hotel in London as recognition of one individual who has gone above and beyond in support of their club.
And earlier this year Cath won the Football Supporters’ Association Jacqui Forster Memorial Award for her incredible efforts in helping and supporting her fellow fans.
Despite the lack of activity on the pitch in the weeks ahead the Trust will be continuing its work in a number of areas as we head towards our summer elections.
We are fortunate to have a very diverse and enthusiastic Trust Board that as well as having regular meetings with the club management team are also involved in a variety of supporter related projects and joint initiatives.
The work of the Trust is broad in both scope and volume and is being carried out by a small group of dedicated volunteers each also juggling family commitments, work and other responsibilities and I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank them all.
In the coming weeks we will be launching a consultation with members and fans on the future strategy of the Supporters’ Trust. We believe the opportunities for a closer working relationship with the club is more important than ever especially on the back of the recent announcement by the government on the Fan Led Review as reported here by the FSA. This strategy work will ask members and fans to consider the priority working areas of the Trust with the club, and as an individual organisation.
We are committed to creating a forward-looking plan of activity to further the interests of our members and fans within the club and the community.
Furthermore, we hope that this strategy will provide a reference point for the current Board in the remainder of their term, along with any new members who join the Trust Board as part of this summer’s annual election process which we will update our members on in June.
We recognise that there are many different views on what a Supporters’ Trust should be and what they should be focussed on and there is no better place to share your own position on this by standing for election and joining the Board for next season.
