Why did you join the Trust Board: At its inception the Trusts aims and objectives were to protect professional football in our City and to ensure the supporters of Swansea City had a say in the running of the club. The shareholding issue has created a split between the fans and the owners of the club and my aim, notwithstanding the outcome of the legal case, is to work with all parties to deliver the club back to the successful working model of just a few years ago, where the Club and Trust worked together, and in partnership.
What attributes/skills are you able to bring to the Board: First and foremost I see myself as a peoples person and coupled with my working experience dealing at all levels, believe I can help to restore harmony between the fans and the club. I have excellent organisational, business and negotiation skills and will use these to further develop the Trust in its role as the voice of the fans.
How do you feel the Trust can further develop its representation of members and the wider fan base: Communication with the fan base as a whole is crucial. The use of social media is paramount in keeping fans informed of what the Trust is doing, and to encourage supporters to join. Increased use of platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will drive this, not forgetting members who still prefer email and other forms of communication.
The Trust Board has rightly spent a lot of time progressing the legal issue. Moving forward we need to reintroduce previously successful social activities involving the fans and the club. We are already seeing progress in this area with the re-introduction of Fans Forums and Ten Pin Bowling nights.
Trust Board Responsibilities: This is my first term as a Board Member, and I am spending time familiarising myself with the many aspects of what the Trust does and how it operates. I am working on the membership and fundraising sub-committee, the Trust Twitter platform and each match day manning the Trust Pod at the stadium. I am more than happy to meet and talk to fans, listening and dealing with issues that the Trust can help with.
