As part of Swansea Council’s COAST Grant Funding Programme, the Swans Trust is delighted to present three upcoming events that aim to delve into the rich and proud heritage of Swansea City Football Club, with a view to bringing together fans who remember or would like to learn more about the history of our football club.
Under the terms of the funding, the talks are aimed at over 50’s who are resident in the Swansea area and will be created and delivered by Award Winning Author and Sports Writer, David Brayley.
David is in his 50th season as a supporter of the Swans, and has written four books linked to the club, two featuring former players, Tony Cottey and club legend, Ashley Williams. He has also made a film about the extraordinary story of the five Welsh International players to have been produced by one single Swansea community, Alice Street in Cwmdu.
David has prepared three talks for each of these 3-hour sessions, the first being ‘The Golden Era of the 50’s’, the second, ‘Alice Street – the story behind the film’ and the final one, ‘From Famine to Feast – the 1970’s’
Whilst these are designed to be sessions delivered by David to inform the attendees about the key players and events of the periods covered, the idea is also to hear from you and to listen to your memories of these important times in the heritage of the club, so the final 45 minutes of each session will be a chance for group discussion to share your own personal and family memories of the topics covered.
All talks will be held in the Cwtch at the Swansea.com Stadium, are FREE to attend and will run from 10:30am to around 1:30pm. As spaces are limited to a maximum of 30 per event bookings all of our current Swans Trust members were emailed last week to give them an early opportunity to book early. It takes just a few minutes for new members to join the Trust for no more than £5 HERE
There are now just a few spaces remaining for all three events available on a first come, first served basis so we strongly recommend you reserve your places early by clicking on the links below.
Dates for the talks are as follows:
Friday 23 February, 10.30am – The Golden Era of the 50’s’ – click here to register
Wednesday 20 March, 10.30am – Alice Street – the story behind the film – click here to register
Friday 19 April, 10.30am – From Famine to Feast – the 1970’s – click here to register
As part of our longer-term strategy where we will be looking to arrange more Swansea City heritage-based events of this nature in association with the Swans Foundation and the Club we will be filming extracts of all these talks which will then be shared across our various media platforms.
